PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Cherry Street Pier along the Delaware River Waterfront is one of many places you can go to catch the fireworks shows on New Year's Eve.

It is hosting a party, "New Year on the Pier," which will be its very first party since opening in October. But this event will be a little different than most you'll find in the area on that night.

"Because it's a 21-and-over party," explained Emma Fried-Cassorla with the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation. "There will be a little bit more drinking here. It's also really geared toward that audience. It's going to have a little bit of a club feel, a lot of dancing. The DJs are a highlight of this."

So you'll have to leave the little ones at home if you're planning to attend.

"The ticket price actually includes two comped drinks," added Fried-Cassorla. "Food vendors are going to be here; a ton of different types of live art."

As for the fireworks, Fried-Cassorla describes the view from Cherry Street Pier as "absolutely amazing."

"You are about three blocks away from the barges," she said. "You can get right out onto the apron of the pier, right over the water and they will be unobstructed views."

And Fried-Cassorla doesn't want you to be turned off by the cold weather because "we're going to have a warming tent, fire pits, different types of heaters," she said.
