PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Comcast spokesperson said the company has restored phone service for most of its customers after an outage affected businesses across the Delaware Valley and beyond.

Reports of service outages by the cable and internet giant's business phone customers began around 1 p.m. and was restored a few hours later, but Twitter was still lighting up.

One Philadelphia law firm reported that attempts to call out result in busy signals, and while incoming calls ring, there is no connection when they're answered.

So far, there is no word from Comcast about the outage's cause.

Customers from New Jersey to Oregon continued to report problems, which persisted throughout the afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m., the cable and internet giant sent out a statement saying its engineers had reconnected Comcast Business Voice and VoiceEdge Select services to most of its customers.

While recognizing that some were still affected, the company promised to get the issue fully resolved quickly and apologized to the customers who were affected.
