PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- August 17 marked the 3rd annual First Responder Appreciation Day in Philadelphia and some community organizations showed their gratitude in some mouth watering ways.

"This is great for officers and great for morale," said Captain Frank Milillo, of the 3rd Police District.

It's a grassroots movement to say "thank you" to first responders in Philadelphia. Councilman David Oh's office, along with the Chinese Restaurant Association of Greater Philadelphia and other community organizations, took time out Friday to fill the hearts and stomachs of first responders to say thank you for all they do.

Police did a great job," said Stephen Chew, president of the Chinese Restaurant Association. "So we deliver food to say thank you to police officers."

Chew says the importance of life-saving work done by EMT's, police and firefighters is immeasurable. And Captain Milillo says officers appreciate the community's recognition for just how hard they work.

"These officers are out here day in and day out, missing their family's birthday parties and special occasions, working weekends while others are enjoying themselves," he said. "It's really an uplift for officers."
