PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Souderton Area School District in Montgomery County is trying to normalize its operations after it was targeted in a ransomware attack.

District officials said in a statement Monday that the cyberattack occurred over Labor Day weekend, but it is still causing some disruption.

They're now working with federal investigators — including the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and the Secret Service — as well as local authorities, to contain it.

"We want to reaffirm that our financial systems are stored off-site and financial information remains secure," read the statement by the district.

Souderton Superintendent Frank Gallagher also said he does not expect any changes to the school calendar.

Teachers have limited access to email. Parents are asked to call the school office for any time-sensitive matters.
