6-year-old killed, several others hurt in Philadelphia in day of gun violence

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 6-year-old boy was shot and killed Sunday in Northeast Philadelphia.

This happened around 1 p.m. on Kendrick Street near Torresdale Avenue, in the city's Holmesburg neighborhood.

Police said the child was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at 1:36 p.m.

Commissioner Danielle Outlaw told NBC10 Philadelphia there were several children inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Neighbors said there had been "a lot of trouble" at the house.

Three other instances of gun violence happened Sunday afternoon, according to police.

A 20-year-old man was killed in a double shooting near 17th and Reed Streets in South Philly.

A 37-year-old woman was shot at least a dozen times and killed in North Philly, on Clearance Street near Tioga. She is currently in stable condition.

And two men are recovering after police said they were shot in Fairmount, near 18th and Wallace Streets.
