DELAWARE COUNTY (KYW Newsradio) — In preparation for Women's History Month in March, the Delaware County Women's Commission is seeking nominations for visionary women in the community.

Caitlin Ganley, chair of the Delaware County Women's Commission, says they are asking for nominees to honor a few women at their annual event, which will be hosted on March 27.

"This year's theme is 'Visionary women, champions of peace and nonviolence,'" Ganley said.

The deadline to submit a name for one of three awards is Friday.

There will be an award given to a current visionary leader who is a champion of peace and nonviolence, a second achievement award will be given to a young woman who has championed peace and nonviolence in her life, and a third Hall of Fame award will be given to a woman who has passed away but whose legacy continues.

Ganley says she hopes events like this one inspire women to help others through public service.

"I would like to see more women get involved in their community and at the elected official level, that we do have a voice and we do have a seat at the table. And I think it's really important that people realize it is okay to step up and be an elected official," she added.

While anyone can make a nomination, the nominee must have a Delaware County connection.
