PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has awarded some $1.8 million in grants to 23 projects in the region.

The grants will go toward a variety of transportation improvement projects in Philadelphia, the suburbs and Camden County.

Barry Seymour, executive director of the commission, describes the distributions as seed money for the planning stages of projects.

"For bike paths or alternatives for new transit circulation. They may look at updating zoning ordinances or local regulations that can encourage growth," he said.

Camden County Freeholder William Moen Jr. said the $100,000 grant is going to Camden for long-awaited improvements.

"Along our Haddon Avenue corridor in the City of Camden, that will allow for pedestrian and also bicycle options to be put in place," he said.

Moen noted more than $70,000 will go toward planning a bicycle-pedestrian network connecting Collingswood and Camden.
