PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Sunoco has been fined $148,000 for violations surrounding the Mariner East 2 Pipeline.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection assessed the penalty, saying Sunoco violated the Clean Streams Law and Dam Safety Encroachment Act. Counties affected were Berks, Chester and Lebanon.

The DEP says construction on the ME2 caused residents to either lose water from their wells or to get cloudy, discolored water from their private water supplies.

It also says the construction caused pollution to the waters of the Commonwealth.

The DEP says it will continue to monitor Sunoco's compliance and make sure it follows the state's environmental laws.
