PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Center City Philadelphia will get a medical marijuana dispensary. A Denver-based company has overcome obstacles that have been discouraging dispensaries from locating to the city.

Beyond/Hello may sound like a dating service, but it's the name of the dispensary that plans to open in the 1200 block of Sansom Street this fall. Blythe Huestis is the president.

"We want to go beyond the 'hello,' beyond the transaction, and really begin having conversations with our patients, with the doctors, and with our community," Huestis said.

She adds it wasn't easy to open in Philadelphia, and it took help from the state, which she says is invested in getting the program running.

Others have given up. A dispensary permitted for East Mt. Airy moved to Montgomery County after neighbors objected, and one slated for Franklin Mills moved to Bucks after a federal court challenge.

Beyond/Hello also has a Bucks location, set to open next month, but Heustis has high hopes for the Sansom Street storefront.

"It's a fantastic location," she said. "We're extremely excited to be in Center City."
