PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Pride flag is flying high just about everywhere you look, and its being used by a number of corporations.

However, did you know that there are resources you can use to find out just where those companies stand when it comes to LGBTQ issues?

June, also known as Pride month, has gained popularity over the years.

With that popularity more and more businesses have attached the Pride flag to their logo.

“There's definitely been some complaints where folks are rightfully concerned that companies will use LGBT paraphernalia or rainbows merely to create the illusion that they are LGBT friendly,” said Zach Wilcha with the Independence Business Alliance.

Wilcha says there are different things you can do to find out just where a company truly stands when it comes to LGBTQ rights.

One of those options is checking out the Human Rights Campaign's 2019 Corporate Equality Index.

“You'd be able to see things such as medical benefits, or whether they have employee resource groups, or whether they participate in sort of supplier diversity, using outside LGBT vendors,” he explained.

Wilcha says you can also do a little leg work, and check out company websites to see their policies.

He adds his company, which is Philadelphia's LGBTQ chamber of Commerce also works with businesses that want to show Pride year round.

“We're able to connect you with the proper resources, whether it's a training to make sure that your company is LGBTQ friendly or competent; or whether you are a company that's interested in being connected with other LGBTQ friendly businesses,” Wilcha said.
