PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — We've all done it: swiped a taste of raw batter from the bottom of the bowl.

As the holiday season goes into full swing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reminding people not to eat raw cookie dough or other batters, as it can make you sick.

Health officials warn raw flour and eggs can cause life-threatening diseases like E. coli or salmonella poisoning.

In 2016, an outbreak of E. coli linked to raw flour made 63 people sick, according to the CDC. Flour has a long shelf life, so the recalled product from two years ago could still be in your pantry. Be sure to check the label.

A simple solution: Wait until your cookies are baked and the contaminants are killed off.
