PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- It’s an extra special Eagles Game Day as the team celebrates last season’s Super Bowl win and kick off their title defense. Some anxious fans were outside Lincoln Financial Field long before the gates were set to open.

Cheryl Green, decked out in her Eagles green, was one of the fans who got to the sports complex early to wait hours for the tailgating lots to open up.

“I want to get a parking spot, first of all, and (I’m) a dedicated fan," she said. "Very excited. I waited all summer for this day to come.”

Also waiting, Gregg Matza of Northeast Philadelphia. In January, Matza was parked outside of the Linc, in the bitter cold, at 5 a.m. for the NFC Championship Game. Fast forward to Thursday.

“I’m superstitious,so I got here at 4:15," Matza said. “How can you sleep? It’s like Christmas morning for Eagles fans all over the world. We’re Super Bowl champs.”

It's another long wait, but well worth it, he says, because he can finally see his beloved Birds raise a Super Bowl banner.

“You’re gonna see grown men cry, even me," Matza admitted. "For all these years of supporting this team and you finally see it. It’s gonna be overwhelming for a lot of people.”
