PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A firefighter was injured after taking a fall while fighting a fire at a West Philadelphia home early Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were called to the home on Spruce Street near the intersection with 57th Street in Cobbs Creek just before 3 a.m. While battling the fire, one firefighter fell one story through what's described as an existing hole in either the roof or a ceiling inside.

That firefighter was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he is listed in stable condition with what's described as a head injury.

All three stories of the home were badly damaged by fire and smoke, but it's not clear if any of the homes surrounding it were damaged. There is also no word at this time on what sparked this fire.
