PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) Flooding and water rescues were reported Monday as storms ripped through the Philadelphia region Monday afternoon, leaving plenty of debris behind.

In Wyncote, at Limekiln Pike and Clubhouse Lane near Cheltenham Avenue, the road was closed for hours after drivers found themselves suddenly in a flash flood.

Kenneth Mitchell says he was lucky to get out alive.

“Just came down, pushing downhill so fast,” he said.

Downed trees covering the road were so large that bulldozers had to remove them before the road could reopen.

And in Mount Airy, several drivers along Upsal Street and Belfield Avenue found themselves suddenly stuck in about 2 feet of water and fearing for their lives after a flash flood took them by surprise.
