PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A celebrity soccer match takes place Wednesday night to help raise funds for a sports-based youth development organization.

Starfinder Foundation Executive Director Heidi Warren has recruited former Philadelphia Union players Sébastien Le Toux and Zach Pfeffer to take part in a soccer match in front of cocktail-sipping spectators and would-be donors.

"They're going to go head-to-head against Starfinder alumni at Starfinder's facility," which is located on Main Street in Manayunk, said Warren. "We have a big indoor soccer field."

Portions of the proceeds will go toward expanding the nonprofit's services. Plans are in the works to launch a spring league for middle school kids.

Warren added that soccer serves as a gateway to bigger and better things.

"We engage kids through their passion for soccer," she said, "and we connect with that to provide them also a whole bunch of other kinds of support — educational support, college guidance, mentoring — and really focus on building the life skills that will help our kids succeed."
