PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- A big payday is in store for the best Fortnite players. The maker of the wildly popular video game is putting up a nine-figure prize.

A prize pool of $100,000,000 will be up for grabs, courtesy of Epic Games.

Fortnite Battle Royale is becoming an official eSport, with competitive play beginning later this year.

Epic hasn't announced details but says its "approach will be different" with plans to be "more inclusive and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game."

Even with the success of eSports -- which analysts expect will top $900 million in revenue this year -- the Fortnite cash pot is a jaw-dropping number: this year's Overwatch League players can score a relatively slim $3.5 million in bonuses.

Fortnite is free to play on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and iOS -- Android is expected this summer -- with in-app purchases powering hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue for Epic in March alone.
