PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Fairmount Park Horticulture Center is offering a free reprieve from winter during a February pop-up event called Getaway at the Greenhouse.

The free second annual Getaway at the Greenhouse pop-up summer oasis takes place at the Fairmount Park Horticultural Center from Feb. 1 through Feb. 16.

“The goal is to kind of gave a summer oasis from the cold," explained Erin Nardini, special event manager with the Fairmount Park Conservancy.

Nardini explains this space will be programmed with dance parties, story times, visits from neighboring zoos and more.

“And then one thing that we are featuring that’s new this year is we have a wonderful Earth installation called Gaia, by a U.K.-based artist named Luke Jerram, and it’s this beautiful lit up NASA-pictured Earth," she added.

Each room, she explains, has a theme. The "jungle" theme, for example, is where the Earth art installation is, while the "camping" area is where people can sit and hang out.

Nardini says the idea for Getaway at the Greenhouse was born out of their summer work at The Oval.

“Fairmount Park Conservancy’s mission is to bring parks to life," she added.

And she says since they had such a great turnout to this event last year, they extended it this year from one week to two.
