PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Giant Food Stores is planning to open three more supermarkets in Philadelphia before the end of the year.

The grocery stores will be located in University City, at 3401 Chestnut St.; Northern Liberties, at 1002 North Second St., across from Schmidt's Commons; and at Second and South streets in Queen Village.

Giant says it will hire around 150 full- and part-time workers for the shops. The company is using its Heirloom Market concept, which highlights local food vendors, features beer and wine, and — in Giant's words — is "tailored to the (neighborhood's) specific needs and preferences."

At the University City store, for example, the market will cater to students with grab-and-go meals or easy-to-make dinners, and even accept payment by students' DragonCard and Penn Card.

One Heirloom Market opened last month in Graduate Hospital.

The University City location will be the first to open this summer, followed by Northern Liberties in the fall and Queen Village by the end of the year.
