PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia's newest celebrity made an appearance Thursday near his home in South Philly to help prepare for a charitable cause.

The 7-foot, fuzzy, orange troublemaker was on the grounds of the Wells Fargo Center to test out the rides for the Flyers Wives Carnival, coming Nov. 18.

As fans know, Gritty squeaks, but he doesn't speak. So Shawny Hill, the Philadlephia Flyers TV Host, was on hand to answer questions while Gritty played with the toys.

"My man Gritty, the sensation, he's out testing all the rides for us!" Hill said. "The icon himself!"

Hill says fans can meet Gritty and their favorite Flyers players at the carnival, which is a big fundraiser for childhood cancer and leukemia.

"It's the first community event, really the big focus event," Hill said. "And now, having Gritty involved with it, the new outdoor area, along with all the fun and games that we've had for 42 years now! It will be the 42nd carnival!"

Hill says the best part is that kids under 12 will be able to get in free with an adult admission ticket.
