PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating a fiery crash that left three people dead early Sunday morning.

Around 1:45 a.m., one car heading north on Whitaker Avenue collided with another car heading south after it made a left turn on Whitaker.

The head-on collision, which occurred at Whitaker Avenue and D Street in the Feltonville section of the city, resulted in the northbound car bursting into flames.

Police said the three people inside the other car couldn't get out. The victims, two 22-year-old men and an unidentified woman, were all killed.

The driver of the other car was taken to Temple University Hospital and listed in critical condition.

Police Capt. Frank Palumbo said surveillance cameras may have captured the crash.

"We have no indication about alcohol," he added. "Just based on the extensive damage, it's safe to say that speed most likely was a factor."
