PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A rock star made his debut at the Wells Fargo Center Tuesday night. Flyers fans were officially introduced to the team's legendary new mascot, Gritty, during the home opener.

Gritty came in like a wrecking ball, swinging from the rafters with all the style and pizzazz of a hairy, orange version of Miley Cyrus.

"All my friends say he's weird, but nah he ain't weird," said Michael Cooper.

He along with thousands of Flyers fans finally met the team's legendary new mascot live and in person.

For Cooper, it was love at first sight in section 115. He thinks the mascot could bring the team good luck.

"He might be the change we need. We might get one this year, you know what I mean," said Cooper.

Mike Whylings wore his I love Gritty T-shirt and was desperate for a photo with the majestic mascot.

"100 percent, this is what we need and I think the fans are already endearing him because we have that 'no one likes us and we don't care' attitude.'"

Gritty is already the NHL's most popular mascot on Twitter, and given the reception at the center, the cult following and legend will only grow from here.
