PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Chase Utley, one of the most popular players in Phillies history, announced he's retiring from baseball at the end of this season, creating nostalgic feel among fans in Philadelphia.

"Chase Utley you are the man."

Harry Kalas said it best in that famous call that's often imitated.

"He's the man, he helped us win a World Series," said fan Jordan Rothfeld. "He'll always be remembered as an immortal here."

Fan Kevin Johnson says it's no surprise that Utley has become a Philadelphia sports legend.

"He's one of those guys, even in his World Series speech "World f***ing champions," he's one of those guys who's willing to speak his mind, he's always willing to stand up for his players, for his team. You don't get that all the time with the athletes."

And long-time Phillies fan Alexander Henry calls Utley a top-five all-time Philadelphia athlete, ranking him up there with stars like Allen Iverson, Julius Erving and Reggie White.

"Yes, he helped us win a World Series," Henry said.

The hope now for fans is that Utley eventually signs a one-day contract to retire as a Phillie.
