PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- A college in Bryn Mawr has a new tradition of ambushing recruits worthy of scholarships with a Prize Patrol flair.

Bonner-Prendergast High School senior Mary Jo Forsyth thought she was being called to the office for a meeting on Wednesday. To her immense surprise, three  Harcum College representatives and the school mascot greeted her with balloons and an offer of free room and board.

She accepted on the spot, and then called her mother.

"Well that's what you wanted, right?" he mother asked.

Yes. I'm so happy," Forsyth said. "You're happy too, right?"

"Oh my God, yeah," her mother responded.
Harcum's Rachel Bowen says Mary is among 20 students the college has targeted this year.

It's important for us, with the climate that we're in right now, with the cost of education and people very concerned, that we want to make sure it's affordable," Bowen said, "and that we pick the right students that are definitely going to be an asset to Harcum and who also deserve the reward."
