PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Homicide detectives are investigating the discovery of three bodies inside a rowhouse in the Tioga section.

Investigators have a lot of questions and few answers at this point following the grim find Saturday night inside a home on West Venango Street near 19th Street.

Police Commissioner Richard Ross says the body of a 91-year-old man who lived in the home was found in the basement along with that of another man.

He says a woman's body was found on the second floor.

Ross says police were tipped to the scene by someone who was related to the homeowner, who had left for a time and came back.

"The area was ransacked. That suggests that there could be things missing. So, we're treating it as a burglary gone awry," Ross said.

Ross wouldn't say how the victims died or identify them. However, he suggested the woman may be the daughter of the older man.

At this point, detectives are interviewing neighbors.

"If any neighbor, in particular, because this is an inside scene, knows anything. Or, anybody just in the neighborhood in general heard anything," he said.

Ross says detectives are still trying to determine whether anything is missing because it appears the doors were locked at the time and there was no sign anyone forced their way in.
