PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some of the people who help get Philadelphia international recognition were recently recognized.

Global Philadelphia hosted the annual Globy Awards Luncheon at the Westin in Center City.

"The Globy Awards are a designation for individuals that have done something significant over the course of their life in their different disciplines that relate to connecting Philadelphia globally," explained CEO Robert McNeill.

Five people were honored at this year's event. Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO Julie Coker Graham was given the Community Leadership Award.

"The award certainly is a representation of collaboration of all of the organizations of Philadelphia that really are doing great work to ensure that Philadelphia is seen as a world class destination," she told KYW Newsradio.

She called putting the city in a international spotlight a "team sport" and said it takes contributions from many organizations.

"We host travel media that comes, we bring them to Philadelphia to experience it, and therefore they're inspired to write great stories so their folks in country know a lot more about Philadelphia and all that it has to offer," she said on how her group does their part. "We also pride ourselves on educating travel tour operators and travel trade on how great Philadelphia is."

Senior managing partner with PIPV Capital, Osagie Imasogie, got the Corporate Leadership Award. The Educational Leadership Award went to Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry Dean Dr. Amid Ismail.

Independence National Historical Park Superintendent Cynthia MacLeod received the Historical and Cultural Preservation Leadership Award.

"We take care of independence hall and provide for millions of people to enjoy it each year," MacLeod said. "A building is just a building without stories that are about people that provide meaning to people's lives today. Working with the other leaders who have been honored here today makes that happen."

Hersha Hospitality Trust CEO Jay Shah was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
