PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Memorial Day weekend was a celebration, even for those who didn’t hit the shore.

Some folks who didn’t make it to South Jersey this weekend still got a chance to stroll the boardwalk, the Philly boardwalk, at Spruce Street Harbor Park.

"It's very similar to the shore, but it's great because we don't have to commit to a whole weekend away," said Danielle from King of Prussia.

"There are a lot of free activities that's going on," said Kyle Burns

"It's closer than the shore," Danielle said.

"An hour and a half to get down the shore, sometimes even without traffic and here you can get here from where I live in 20 minutes and have a very similar experience,” Burns added.

"It's very festive around here, and just the city vibe is a little different than the shore," Danielle said.

So, what makes it feel like summer?

"Definitly the weather, the kids playing and they're all hot and bothered and want to run around,” explained Jazzmyn of Philadelphia.

But what's the best and worst part of this Memorial Day weekend?

"The worst part is the traffic,” she said. “The best part probably the sales."
