PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - Manyunk is known for its outdoor festivals, usually in the warmer weather months. But on this frigid Saturday in January hundreds of people were on Main Street for a pretty cool event.

"It's the middle of winter, its cold, but everybody is bundled up and the streets are full," said Dave Konstanzer. "It's nice to see this many people out and about."

The event, called the Philly Freeze-Out, featured live ice craving demonstrations. You could also check out different ice sculptures at just about every block.

"There's a lot of great detail in each one," Kristen noticed.

Crowds enjoyed live music and samples at the ice beer garden.

"It feels like we're out in Vermont right now, with the folk music playing, people enjoying their beers and stuff,” Marty said. “It’s cool; it's like being transported to one of the New England-type villages."

Speaking of New England, another highlight of this event was the Chowder Crawl.

From Chipotle Chicken Corn Chowder to Irish Seafood Chowder, over a dozen Manayunk restaurants put their own spin on the soup.
