PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) --  With the shutdown over, visitors at Independence Mall were happy to get a close look once again at two of the nation's most iconic symbols.

Kristal Woutes, from Minnesota, says it was her first time seeing the Liberty Bell in person.

Reporter: So are you glad it’s open today?

“Yeah, for sure," she said. "It’d be kind of sad to be here and not be able to go and see it."

Reporter: Are you going over to Independence Hall now?

“We just came from over there,” she explained. “It’s really cool. I mean obviously there is a lot of history with our country, so it’s really neat to come and see it and learn more about it.”

Reporter: What do you think about the shutdown in general? Do you think it did hamper a lot of things and you're glad to see things opened?

“I don't agree with what the president is doing and I think it’s kind of silly,” she said. “I'm glad it’s reopened and hopefully they will be able to figure something out, so it doesn't get shutdown again."

Many of Saturday’s Independence Mall visitors sided with Woutes saying they all hope that the government will remain open for good.
