MULLICA HILL, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Plans to open a new state-of-the-art hospital in the heart of Gloucester County are coming to fruition this December.

Inspira Health is trading in its Woodbury hospital for a new facility on the west end of the Rowan University campus in Mullica Hill, which borders busy Route 55. It will open for patients on Dec. 8 with 210 private rooms.

The new hospital, called Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, cost $356 million. It will have a 62-room emergency unit, a modern maternity ward, a cardiac cath lab and surgical suites with robotic assistants. A cancer center is expected to open next year.

“Our people definitely have the expertise to do this,” CEO John DiAngelo said. “But now we are giving them the tools to be able to do the higher-level things that we couldn’t do before and do it in the most efficient fashion, because most of these physicians would do much of those procedures somewhere else.”

DiAngelo noted the Woodbury facility will not be abandoned.

“We will have an emergency room there, a satellite ED (emergency department), as they call it. We will have our mental health program there. We’ll have outpatient facilities there. And we’ll have a number of our back office functions,” he said.

They’re also working with city officials to find other uses for the Woodbury site.

The last hospital to open in South Jersey was Virtua, which debuted in Voorhees eight years ago.
