PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Israeli flag displayed on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway was defaced with what appears to be red paint.

The incident occurred one day after Mayor Jim Kenney celebrated Israel's 70th birthday at City Hall, which is also hanging the Israeli flag there for a total of three days and nights.

The vandalism coincides with the U.S. Embassy opening in Jerusalem, which received international backlash and resulted in the deaths of more than 50 Palestinian protesters in Gaza.

The Israeli flag on the Parkway is one of about 90 nations represented on the street.

This is a developing story.
