PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Rittenhouse Square is alive with Christmas cheer after hundreds of people showed up Tuesday night to watch the tree lighting ceremony.

With a big crowd, and a brisk night, it certainly felt a lot like Christmas.

The 30-foot tree and thousands of white twinkling lights brought a bright smile to so many faces in the crowd.

"It's the spirit coming alive. We come every year. Front row every year. We love it. It's fabulous," said one visitor.

The Grinch made an appearance and tried to steal the show, but Santa wasn't having it and told him to get lost.

After the tree was lit, both stayed to take pictures with everyone, including 5-year-old Crystal.

"The Grinch is funny and do not like Christmas. He just said 'hi' and I said 'hi' back to him," she said.

And the free hot cider and hot chocolate helped everyone stay warm long enough to take all the selfies they wanted.
