MEDIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — As people barbecue or celebrate at the shore this Memorial Day, a patriotic ceremony was held once again in Delaware County, where hundreds lined up to watch the annual parade honoring soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Under gray skies, a three-gun salute honored fallen soldiers.

Also dressed in patriotic colors, kids and their families lined State Street as the Penn Crest High School marching band drummed through.

"A lot of cars, a lot of people and a lot of people doing tricks with flags and guns," described 7-year-old Tommy as he waved to vets in classic sports cars, some tossing out candy in return.

"We come every year," added his mother Angela. "To celebrate and thank the servicemen. ... It’s very touching. You appreciate everything they do. Their service and everything they give up for us."

Based on the patriotic crowd, Memorial Day means a lot to the people of Media. Even the children grasped the message:

"The American flag."

"The people serving our country and thanking them for doing that."

"The people who died in the war."

"It means freedom."
