ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — As sports betting has grown by leaps and bounds in New Jersey, one Atlantic City casino has stood on the sidelines.

But not for much longer.

The Hard Rock wants to get in the game, but the casino's president Joe Lupo has taken things slow.

He has good reason.

"Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, that was a deal with the NFL when we had to get the t's crossed and the i's dotted to make sure that we could work through sports betting,” Lupo told KYW Newsradio, “and we have that commitment from the NFL and it just took a while for us to get through that."

They’re awaiting approvals now from the state and hope to get their sports book open in a couple weeks. And yes, they will take bets on NFL games.

“We’ll be up and running here for March Madness and look to have a great sports book and online sports wagering throughout the state as well,” Lupo added.

The sports bet biz has already taken in more than $1.2 billion in revenue statewide in just six months.
