PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- As summer winds down, those outdoor bugs that linger inside your home certainly aren't slowing down. But there is a way to get ahead of the problem before it gets out of hand.

Spiders, flies, fruit flies, gnats, bees and wasps. They're the uninvited seasonal guests that try to stick around as fall approaches.

"They start outside," said Wes McCorkle, of Green Pest Solutions in West Chester, "but, like anything else, they want a place to go to when it gets cold."

McCorkle explains that's the persistent nature of pests, and they seem to get testy as summer winds down.

"I would say this is the most calls we have gotten for bees and wasps," he said.

Getting to the source of the problem can be dangerous with stinging insects, so McCorkle suggests calling a professional. But when comes to spiders and flying insects, he says, there's often a common cause with a simple solution.

"Something dead in a wall that could be causing flies to come in," he explained, "produce that's on the countertop, something in your drain that's causing them to multiply."

Cleaning counters, appliances and a quick home remedy of bleach down the drain overnight and flushing in the morning might help.
