PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Going to work was a little more unpleasant than usual Friday morning, with temperatures in the low 40s and the wind cutting through jackets and coats.

And it's only going to get worse. Temperatures will plunge into the mid-20s overnight. The bite and the chill is very real, and our bodies haven't really adjusted to this new normal yet.

This is one of those days when the reality of the season sets in. For some, the cold arrived like a punch in the face.

Tiara and her dog Midnight took their morning walk in the dark, and neither one of them looked very happy to be outside. And it's getting more difficult to peel herself out of bed for these walks.

"Yes, it's much more difficult. He has a sweater on. I have my parka," she said. "We're just trying get this done as quickly as possible."

She said they miss summer.

"Definitely the sunshine and not having to bundle up," she said. "And, yeah, we could definitely walk for a longer period of time."

This is a good time for homeowners to make sure their houses are ready for the cold. Turn off any exterior faucets, check the roof for missing shingles, drain the sprinkler system, and cover the air conditioning unit outside to protect it. No one is going to need those amenities for quite a while.
