NORRISTOWN (KYW Newsradio) — A 21-year-old Telford, Pa., man was arrested for a fatal car crash earlier this month, which killed an elderly woman while she was sleeping.

Around midnight April 6, Joseph Bezanis was driving westbound on Harleysville Pike when he hit a curve and jumped through three lawns, propelling into the first-floor bedroom of a Harleysville Pike home in Franconia Township.

The 86-year-old victim, Marianne Lambert, was found crushed against a wall.

Authorities say Bezanis was driving his 1995 Toyota over 80 mph in a 40-mph speed limit.

They said he was also drunk and high on marijuana at the time. Toxicology reports revealed a blood-alcohol level of .172.

Bezanis was charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, reckless driving and other offenses.

His bail is set at $100,000 unsecured.

"The defendant's decision to use marijuana as well as drink as a local bar turned deadly when he got behind the wheel of his vehicle and drove impaired," said Kevin Steele, Montgomery County district attorney. "His actions have left a family without a matriarch and have forever affected their feelings or safety in their own home."
