Police showed up at Belgrade and East Tioga streets just before 9 a.m. that day, where they found some neighbors pointing at Smith and saying "get him." A woman was standing in her doorway shouting, "Get out of my house!" when Smith pushed her aside and went in.

Officer Curt McKee, a 16-year police veteran, entered after Smith and followed him to the kitchen. Police say McKee was going to use his Taser on Smith, but it did not go off. Smith then pulled out a 7-inch steak knife, and McKee pulled his gun and shot Smith in the chest.

The woman said she did not know Smith, nor did she give him permission to enter her home.

Smith was rushed to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. The investigation is ongoing.
