PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are working to identify a man who was found stabbed to death Sunday in Roxborough.

The victim's body was found in a vacant lot along Ridge Avenue near Harmon Road, around 12:30 in the afternoon.

Homicide Capt. Jack Ryan said the man was stabbed several times in the torso, and his body is in advanced stages of decomposition. The man remains unidentified.

"Hopefully, (we'll) possibly be able to get fingerprints," he said. "We will certainly get a DNA sample and try to composite sketch out. We believe the male might be homeless, but it is too early to say at this point."

Once they find out who the man is, they can begin to dig into the victim's life. Meanwhile, Ryan said authorities will be canvassing the neighborhood in an attempt to collect video footage.

"The 5th District is the lowest crime district in the city of Philadelphia," he added. "Something of this nature is very unusual and out of the ordinary."
