PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is in critical condition after being shot in the face in the city's Fern Rock section late Wednesday night.

Philadelphia Police believe the 30-year-old victim crashed into a sign while trying to drive himself to the hospital after being shot near 12th and Madary Streets. Chief Inspector Scott Small said an officer spotted the victim driving erratically around 11:30 p.m. and followed him.

"After crashing into the sign, the driver exited the driver-side door of the vehicle and jumped into the police the vehicle," Small said.

Small said that officer rushed the man to Einstein Hospital, where he was treated for the gunshot wound. Investigators are now asking anyone with information about the shooting to get in touch with police.
