PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 20-year-old man is clinging to life after being shot more than a dozen times Thursday night in the city's Fern Rock section.

Police say the victim left his house, got into his SUV and was ambushed. Chief inspector Scott Small says at least 17 shots were fired.

"The victim sitting in the driver's seat was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his head, his chest, arms and legs," Small said.

Small says the shooter walked right up to the vehicle and began firing from just a couple feet away. So far there's no known motive for the shooting. It happened in the 5900 block of North 12th Street at about 11 o'clock.

Authorities are looking through surveillance video from nearby homes, and they're investigating to see if this shooting is related to a shooting two blocks away that happened earlier this week.
