PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A family party turned deadly early Christmas morning in Olney. A man is in custody for allegedly killing his girlfriend with a butcher knife and wounding her teenage son.

Officials say a 33-year-old man fueled with alcohol got in an argument and started fighting with guests at a house party on Mascher Street near Olney Avenue.

"There is also broken glass. There is also overturned and broken furniture, so there was clearly a violent struggle inside," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Small says police were called to the home shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

"When police arrived on location, they found a 35-year-old female laying on the highway. She was stabbed multiple times in her abdomen. There was a 33-year-old male standing over her," he said.

Officials say the unidentified woman was also was stabbed in her chest. Officials said she was the man's girlfriend and was pronounced dead a short time later.

The woman's 14-year-old son who tried to intervene inside the home was stabbed in the thigh and taken to the hospital in critical condition, police say.

Police say there were six children, ranging from 8 to 16 years old, in the home at the time of the attack. The kids say the man and woman got into a fight, and someone pulled a butcher knife. Officials found the weapon upstairs.

Officials say one kid was frightened enough to hide upstairs and was found after police arrived.

Editor's note: A previous version incorrectly stated the stabbing occured Tuesday night. It happened Wednesday morning.
