NEW JERSEY (KYW Newradio) -- The unofficial start of summer is already drawing big crowds to the Jersey Shore.

The shoobies and holiday visitors are already making their way to the Jersey Shore for Memorial Day weekend.

Just ask Gail Epifanio of Sea Isle City.

"Well, what I said all day yesterday is what a difference a day makes," she said. "From nobody here on Wednesday, to you couldn't find a parking place yesterday already. So, it was quite a difference."

But for her, it'll be a traditional Memorial Day.

"We'll have family over," she said. "Grandkids, and a lot of eating. Hopefully some beach."

Frank and Lynda Lewis of Huntingdon Valley are in Ocean City for the annual "Unlocking of the Ocean" and the Businessperson's Plunge ceremonies.

"We bring the kids down," he said. "We try to get the older ones down. So it's becoming some sort of a tradition for us."

Do you walk into the ocean fully dressed?

"Well no, we won't go that far," he said. "But we like watching everybody else do it. It's kind of like the start of our summer."

"Just seeing everything open," Lynda added. "I like the whole freshness of everything opening up -- everybody excited about the new season."

Especially since there is beautiful beach weather -- for start of the holiday weekend, at least.
