PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The man accused of killing a city real estate developer near Rittenhouse Square last month has been released from prison.

Michael White, 21, was behind bars at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility following the stabbing death of 37-year-old Sean Schellenger near 17th and Chancellor streets.

Schellenger was trying to help move traffic along in Rittenhouse Square when White was riding by on a bicycle. The two got into an argument, which led to White pulling out a knife on Schellenger, stabbing him in the back and running away.

Last week, the district attorney announced they were downgrading charges to third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter — originally from the general charge of murder — allowing a judge to set bail.

White is next due in court in October.
