PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- If you'd rather be anywhere else but in that meeting at work, an innovation from Microsoft might change your mind by providing a new perspective.

Think of it as a canvas to create 3D experiences.

Microsoft says it designed SharePoint spaces so making mixed reality would be as easy as point-and-click.

Examples include simple visualizations of sales figures -- what would have been boring bar graph data instead rise like skyscrapers on a map.

You can walk around a construction site and get an up-close look at a product prototype -- all from a conference room (or wherever you are) via virtual reality headset.

SharePoint spaces include templates to get you started, and allow the easy use of content stored in the cloud.

The Office 365 commercial app will require an investment in VR goggles, but Microsoft notes it no longer will be "prohibitively expensive... to make mixed reality apps broadly accessible in the workplace."
