ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (KYW Newsradio) -- The new executive director of the Miss New Jersey pageant has announced that the annual competition will relocate in June.
The state pageant has been held on the Music Pier in Ocean City for over 25 years, but David Holtzman says it’s time for a change.
“We’ve been talking about it for a couple years now because we simply have outgrown that venue,” he told KYW Newsradio. “The seats have been filled year to year and there’s 900 seats there. Where we’re moving we’ll have 1,350.”
That would be in the Superstar Theatre at Resorts, which has a two-year deal with Holtzman’s group. Hopes are to grow the event and attract more participants from across the state.
They’re also adopting some changes made on the national level.
“We are not having the swimsuit competition,” he added. “We’re not having evening wear, although there is the segment where the contestants can choose what they want to wear and at the last Miss America event most of them chose evening wear.”
The week-long state competition culminates with finals on Saturday, June 15.
