LOWER PROVIDENCE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A water main break is causing problems along a busy roadway in Lower Providence, Montgomery County, and cutting off water service for about 20 homes in the area. The low temperatures are adding to the issue.

Trooper Road northbound is closed between Egypt Road and Ridge Pike. There are cones blocking off the northbound lanes at Egypt Road. The water has been flowing down the northbound lanes for much of the morning and because of the below-freezing temperatures there is some ice along the road. Some of the water has been freezing as it heads toward the drain.

Emergency crews have put salt down, which has helped a bit, but not all of the road has been covered in salt, so there are slick spots.

A spokesman with Pennsylvania American Water says the utility is looking into what caused the 8-inch cast-iron main to break around 4 a.m. Authorities say repaitrs could last until noon.
