PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- A blood drive Sunday in Montgomery County had biblical ties.

Throughout the month of April, the World Mission Society Church of God is hosting blood drives at various locations up and down the east coast in observation of what's known as the New Covenant Passover.

"During the Passover each year, it's a feast of God, where God gives their flesh and blood," said Amarea Moffett, with the Church of God, "so in the same way as children of God, we also want to give or blood, so other people can have life as well."

On Sunday, the church hosted a blood drive at its Jenkintown location, where dozens of people came to donate. The goal was to collect 160 pints of blood.

"One blood donation saves three lives," Moffett said, "and that's amazing."

More than 2,000 volunteers of the Church of God participated in the blood drive in nearly a dozen locations.
