PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Mummers are preparing for its New Year's Day parade along Broad Street.

Two indoor shows, called the Fancy Brigade Finale, will also take place on Jan. 1, and Wednesday is move-in day at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Twelve Fancy Brigade clubs are trucking in scenery, props and equipment into Hall A at the Convention Center.

Anthony Stagliano, captain of the Downtowners Fancy Brigade, said the group placed fifth last year. They are aiming for first in 2019 with its "This is Halloween" entry.

"It's all built in pieces of puzzle. So for us, its building in this big, massive warehouse, taking it apart, bringing it in to the Convention Center and then piecing it together. So for us, we are trying to put the structure back up and then once the structure is back up, that's when we start adding all of the design work and the flare," he said.

Then rehearsals for all of the clubs' choreographed performances get underway.

There are nearly 2,000 performers and behind-the-scenes personnel altogether.

Timothy Luko, treasurer for the Fancy Brigade Association, said tickets are still available to purchase for the theatrical-style shows.

"There is a noon show, and then we have our judged show and televised show at 5 p.m.," Luko said.
