PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Just days after a young boy was struck and killed by a driver in South Philadelphia, nearly $20,000 has been raised to help the family with funeral costs.

The GoFundMe page, titled "Julian Angelucci's Funeral Funds," was set up by one of his siblings. Under his name, strangers and loved ones left messages of sympathy and prayers.

"His life was tragically taken from the careless act of a [reckless] driver," read the description on the page. "His death was unexpected and we are now sadly in the process of planning a funeral for him. Unfortunately we do not have all the funds to put him to rest in the way he deserves. Please help my family in this time of need, anything you donate will help and will be appreciated greatly."

The 11-year-old was hit by a Sedan while on his bike near 10th and Shunk streets Friday afternoon — just blocks from his house.

The 48-year-old woman driver didn't immediately stop, but she called 911 a short distance away and eventually went to the 3rd District Police Department to report the accident.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
