PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The deadline is here for anyone hoping to send a card or package to be received before Christmas Day.

First Class and Priority Mail needs to be at the post office Thursday, but U.S. Postal Service Regional Spokesperson Ray Daiutolo says there is one more chance for anyone who missed the deadline.

"You're going to have to use our Priority Mail Express service, and that would have to be in our hands by Saturday," Daiutolo said.

During the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, the U.S. Postal Service handles just about as much mail as during the rest of the year combined.

Daiutolo offers tips for sending packages.

"You want to make sure that you're using a good box, you're using sufficient cushioning, proper addressing. Address hygiene is very important," he said.

He also recommends taking the batteries out of any electronics, and adding an index card inside the box with a "to and from" address, just in case something happens to your package.

Daiutolo also encourages people to take advantage of USPS.com. He says anything you can do in a post office can be done online.
